Theresa May freezes assets of Litvinenko poisoner suspects

Above is a picture of the widow of Alexander Litvenenko who lost her husband when he drank tea laced with polonium.  Two suspects – Andrei Lugovoi and Dmitry Kovtun have had their assets frozen through British Home secretary Theresa May.

High Court Judge Sir Robert Owen ruled the two named people were behind the murder. European arrest warrants have been issued for the two suspects together with an extradition order which has been in place for nearly ten years though Russia has far consistently refused to acknowledge it.

May conceded also that she thought that the Russian state was in some way involved in the murder and this was deeply disturbing. “It goes without saying that this was a blatant and unacceptable breach of international law and civilised behaviour” she stated.

“These assassins trampled over British sovereignty and we cannot let this go unanswered” said Liberal Democratic Leader, Tim Farron.
