A lorry fire at the French end of the  Tunnel and  as the carbon dioxide alarm had gone off, Channel Tunnel cancels, all Eurostar trains for the rest of the day. Train operator Eurotunnel spokesman has offered apology and says that if the passengers have booked for cancelled or delayed trains they can get either a ticket refund or a free exchange or rebooked within the next 60 days for travel within six months . As a safety measure Eurotunnel, which runs car and freight services between Folkstone and Calais in France,  decided to suspend all services in both directions after smoke had been detected in the north Tunnel. Passengers are facing hours of delays .

No-one was believed to be hurt in the incident that was being dealt with by French authorities.

“However, rail passengers are advised to expect significant delays whilst the vehicle is being recovered and fumes are cleared from the tunnels.”

In March last year, a lightning strike  was responsible for a fire in a building close to the entrance to the tunnel in kent, several Eurostar passengers were delayed.
