Tremors hit Greek Island of Samos and Turkey killing 85 and injuring 1000
A 7.0 magnitude Earthquake shakes the Greek Island of Samos about 11miles off the coast of Western Izmir Province, which was even felt in Athens, Crete, and Istanbul. Turkey’s Aegean Coast also had tremors causing buildings to collapse according to US geological Survey.
In 1999 17, 000 people died in Izmir after an earthquake.
The earthquake struck at a depth of 6miles collapsing 20 buildings killing 85 people and injuring 1000 in the city of Izmir, while in Samoa two teenagers were killed.
Greek prime minister Kyroakos Mitsotakis called Turkey’s President Erdogan “ to offer my condolences for the tragic loss of life from the earthquake that struck both our countries”.
