Two wild elephants rescued from sea
Two Asian elephants who had been separated from their herd in Myanmar waded across a river into Bangladesh have been led to safety after nearly dying at sea off the coast of Bangladesh. A four day ordeal stuck by the seas surrounded by onlookers, the wild elephants swam into the Bay of Bengal. Authorities rescued the animals with essential help from local fisherman, using ropes to bring them back to shore. The elephants have since been given food and will be taken to nearby forest according to local official Syed Ashiq Ahmed.
The elephants in the region are increasingly threatened by logging, farming and forest fires.
A major elephant migration route has been blocked by cams housing thousands of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar.
