UK Beauty business worth £17bn

beauty first

The UK beauty industry is worth £17 billion and employs over one million workers, making it one of the most lucrative industries. The global beauty business permeates our lives, trending how we perceive ourselves and what it is to be beautiful.

Grooming is an essential part of life, for humans and animals alike. It is vital for keeping healthy, clean and hygienic, as well as playing a key role in social bonding . Our ‘beauty’ rituals include something as simple as washing every morning with soap, or undergoing more specialist treatments such as Botox or chemical skin peels. The average woman is thought to spend a massive £100,000 on beauty products throughout her lifetime, while the average 30 year-old man spends around £100 a month on grooming products and both enhance their sexual allure which encapsulates the big promise in a seductively natural and simple way.

In May 2015,  the Anglo-Dutch consumer goods company, Unilever, which had sales £33.88bn (€48.4bn), acquired REN, the Iconic British skincare brand created in 2000 by Antony Buck and Robert Calcraft, by pioneering a new high performance skin care products which had £40m sales in 2103.

We clearly love to look smart, and the thrill in making ourselves look beautiful, drives this rapidly growing industry. Financial forecasts predicted an 8.5% growth in the beauty industry in 2014 and expected a 9.5 per cent rise in 2015, mostly due to male grooming mania, anti-ageing cream claiming “she is 55 but looking only 35 now” Vitamin C which penetrates the damaged aging skin and stimulates new collagen – a protein which makes the skin appear firm and plump, Hyaluronic acid works by binding to moisture and help your skin to repair and regenerate itself from stresses. Argon oil has become costly.
