COALS TO NEWCASTLE FOR SOME, REMIND YOURSELVES OF HOW TO COUPLE UP AND HAVE FUN.

Self help books have been season of the day for many moons now and this one is no exception.

In his book,  Russell Jones embraces the reignition of longterm relationships and comes up with some stunning and thought- provoking theories on what is hot and what is not in the romance department.

He starts early on by saying that puddings taste sweeter if served in a red bowl…swiftly moving on to telling us that sex is better with a man who can smell doughnuts or liquorice. Russell Jones passionately believes that we are “emotional beings who make emotional decisions and then explain them rationally after the event”. His techniques on fragrance as well as sound effects have been used in corporate establishments  with positive results from this guru of human indulgences and interactions with each other.

On scent, he says, “we’re unconsciously attracted to chemicals called pheronemes, or hormonal  aroma molecules that activate special responses in us”.  He advocates going “natural” if a couple is having  showers after work before coupling up for romance. Saying “don’t apply artificial scents afterwards – keep your skin unadulterated”, he quotes research by psychologist Rachel Herz that “we’re much more attracted to a person’s natural odour than to any artificial perfume they apply”.

He  advises readers on  a survey in 2016 that reflected that caramel coloured walls in the bedroom  comprise the fact that couples with this colour walls have sex more often averaging around three and a half times per week across the UK which usually averages around twice a week.

Keep Things Curvy covers an attitude that in interior design including in the home can increase good vibes between couples and inhabitants if the shapes of decor and furnishings are curvaceous.  Scented candles, wonderful aromas of sweets baked in  the  kitchens,  cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and anise are key ingredients in the study. Lighting – a sweet scented candle creates a feeling of warmth, and the scent of these food related ingredients will help get things underway,

Wearing warm colours including red of course can help to improve reactions to someones’ attractiveness. “The use of red across the across the ages to symbolise sex , lust and passion stems from this “primal trigger”.  This also includes the use of bright red lipstick by women to increase their appeal.

“Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye was chosen by men as a top song to play during re- seduction while the soundtrack from Dirty Dancing was chosen by women. Ravel’s Bolero is another piece of music which  couples find is very beautiful to play whilst making love. Skin orgasms as the book calls them, can be brought on by listening to Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No 2 and Someone Like You by Adele.

Sugary foods and drinks enhance the start of a relationship when shared according to research at Purdue University in Indiana.

To resurrect a relationship which maybe has dwindled, touch is essential.  Gentle caressing and the feel of skin releases the love hormone oxytocin. Stroking each other on the arms and back gently is good according to sex therapist Linda De Villers. Use a fur mitt, a satin ribbon, an ice cube,  an emery board a soft artist’s paintbrush and a toothbrush. Practice lying down with your partner and discover what you like or don’t like!
