Virat Kohli quits as Indian Test captain
Virat Kohli quit as captain of India men’s Test team, after losing to the lower ranked South Africa team, the Test series 1-2 and captaining India in a record-breaking 68 Tests, winning 40 matches, ( 24 at home, 16 away), and made 115, 141, and 147 in his first three innings in 2014.
Cornered Kohli had no other option but to quit. Kohli was an over-aggressive, self-centred teenager, and he had no chance of playing for India unless he mellowed. With his leadership the “New Indian team” became aggressive, self-confident, wedded to the concept of victory and an uncompromising bunch of players who gave their best. However, Kholi-driven fitness should remain a feature of Indian teams. Rishabh Pant- the young vice captain would be obvious choice for captain’s post.
According to former England captain Michael Vaughan “ There are many really great players but Virat Kohli stand-out across all the three formats of his era by a country mile”. He got the gift to play all around the wicket in every single format”.
Kholi’s 23rd Test century moved him level with Steve Smith, who is top of the Test batting rankings.
