WATER THEFT IN USA PROMPTS IDEA FROM STAR TREK ACTOR

water theft

Water tankers have been hijacked, industrial pipelines have been tapped into and private wells have been targeted as the price of this essential ingredient to human life – water – has soared.  Farmers are amongst the public who are desperate for water for their crops such as almonds, and for keeping their cattle from being thirsty and they have been willing to pay black marketeers to keep their livelihoods flourishing. The state of California is into its fourth year of drought and criminals now specialise in water theft rather than robbing banks to make their illegal  income.

Jerry Brown – California’s Governor has ordered water cuts of up to 36% of supplies to places like Beverly Hills – a once “lush” state.  “Squander bugs” – those who waste water can now be fined up to $10,000 which has hastened their search for pirate sources and illicit supplies.

People even break into neighbouring houses when they see neighbours have gone out to fill up on supplies now that water is in such lowered availability.

Towing icebergs from the Arctic, building a pipeline from damp Seattle (an idea of the former Star Trek thespian, William Shatner) which would cost $30bn or even one from his native Canada:- all these ideas are being considered to find a future solution to the problem of dry California.

A new police taskforce is looking into the problem.
