What happens when animals consume junk food
Junk food is a prepared food that has low nutritional value with high levels of calories from sugar or fat with little fibre,, protein, vitamins or minerals, like meat prepared with saturated fat. Frequent consumption of junk food increases the intake of excess fat, simple carbohydrates and processed sugar which may lead to a higher risk of obesity and cardiovascular diseases, colon cancer among other chronic health problems.
In UK official figures released by the annual National Child Measurement Programme reveal 22, 000 children are severely obese and 170,000 leave primary school overweight. The scheme records the weight and height of school starters from ages 4 to 11.
Scientists at the University of Bonn discovered that junk food causes the immune system to go haywire as if they were being attacked by a serious infection.
A recent survey revealed that consuming 100 grams of sugar could limit the ability of white blood cells to destroy harmful microorganisms.
The inflammatory response causes newly activated immune cells to migrate to altered blood vessel walls when they get too large they can burst, leading to clots and an increased risk of strokes.
