World’s largest Amethyst set to fetch £310k
Deep Purple, measuring 17 ft by 6 ft, one of the world’s largest amethyst geodes, as tall as a giraffe is expected to fetch £ 320, 000 ($427, 000) at Bonham’s natural history sale auction in Los Angeles.
The gem found in Uruguay contains rare yellow crystals that enhance its value.
The other items on sale include a turtle fossil from the Eocene period discovered in Wyoming, a gem-encrusted malachite, a mother of pearls chess set, and a Tyrannosaur skeleton cast.
Claudia Florian, of Bonhams’ Natural history department, said: “ We are very excited to be offering so many fascinating items in our sale.”
