A storm of protests met the decision to give the go-ahead to a £16 billion plan for a third runway at Heathrow including resignations notably that of  Zak Goldsmith.  Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Education Secretary Justine Greening are also against the development which will increase flights at Europe’s biggest airport to more than 700,000 per year by 2030. Though it will create jobs, it will affect local homeowners who are to be offered financial compensation. Talks went on from  8.30 am to 9.40 pm yesterday chaired by the PM. Plans to reduce air pollution were included in the talks. Increased flights to locations including Scotland were part of the talk.  It is anticipated by some that the third runway will be mired in protests and legal disputes. ” A third runway would mean an extra 200,000 people impacted, exposing 124 more schools and 43,200 more schoolchildren to an unacceptable level of noise”, warned Mayor Sadiq Khan.
