81 year old Monty Roberts is to teach Prince Harry on the Queen’s Sandringham Estate how working with horses could help former soldiers tackle post-traumatic stress disorders. The “hidden wounds” of soldiers have already been treated by the Californian cowboy who has been a personal adviser to the Queen on her horses and corgis for more than a quarter of a century and is said to be the inspiration behind the character Tom Booker in Nicholas Evan’s bestselling book The Horse Whisperer made into a film starring Robert Redford.

A three day programme called “Horse Sense and Healing” has been developed to deal with combat stress and the resulting anger, social withdrawal and mistrust. Roberts said “I owe her Majesty everything.  Is she hadn’t pushed me, I would still be a cowboy from Salinas and the world would not know about my methods of training horses with non-violence”.

Roberts talks to the Queen several times a year on issues and they discuss what they want to.
