Even after Hashim Amla’s 103 from 115 balls and Faf du Plessis’ 75 they could only reach 299 as they were not quite explosive during the death.
Sri Lanka, however struggled in the chase of 300, slumped to 155 for 6, in the 30th over, as Tahir’s final figure of 4 for 27, bundled them for 203 all out in the 42nd ov er.
Sri Lanka had lost five ODIs to South Africa already this year.
