Bollywood superstar Sridevi has died of a heart attack at around 11:00 pm on 24th February 2018, aged 54 in Dubai, attending her nephew’s wedding.

Sridevi Kapoor featured over five decades in 300 films in five languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi. She was one of the few Indian female superstars capable of huge box office success even without the support of a male hero.

Sridevi’s successful early performances in all four south Indian languages and branched out to an amazing career in Bollywood where she neither knew the Hindi language nor the culture of the Bollywood. Her marriage to producer Boney Kapoor in 1996, Sridevi commanded highest paid actor in her field aided by her star power and charisma for many more years. Her vulnerable sex appeal brought her female and male adulation and her spontaneous acting made her a box-office sensation overnight in Bollywood.

 

Sridevi started acting at the age of four in 1969 in Tamil film. She is the eldest daughter of a small-time Tamil lawyer and Telegu mother, and at the age of 13, she was cast in the role of a complicated woman avenging her lover’s death and as a wife of an older man in the Tamil film Moondru Mudichu ( Marriage).

In the 1980s and early 1990s, Sridevi had been Bollywood’s reigning queen, in a male-dominated film industry, where women were usually relegated to supporting roles as objects of male desire, but she was a rare actress with the magnetic pulling power to a carry a film solo.

In English Vinglish, Sridevi played a middle-aged Indian housewife determined to reclaim her dignity by mastering English, after being mocked by her family for not speaking the language and she had the quality of a true superstar as she reached out and you wanted to reach back.

Sridevi was known for her performances in Mr India, Nagina, Sadma, ChalBaaz, Khuda Gawah.

Sridevi had a full disciplined lifestyle and a very diet conscious life as she never ate junk food, not even masala dos, exercised 2 hours daily.

Compared to that Kushwant Singh former editor drank Whisky every day, was obese and fond of butter chicken and had an erratic day schedule during his career.
