The work of seven contemporary photographers  Evgenia Arbugaeva, Miho Kajioka, Paul Cupido, Pentti Sammallahti, Raul Canibano, Tamas Dezso, and Vasantha Yogananthan, whose images evokes mysteriousness of everyday life, capturing different realities. The photographers explore the strangeness and incongruousness of existence. Their works are exhibited at the Photographer Gallery Extra Ordinary between 27 Jan-13 Feb 2022.

Evgenia Arbugaeva (36) Siberian-born, combines documentary and narrative styles to create a distinctive visual iconography, highlighting the photographer’s romantic fascination and childhood nostalgia for the Russian Arctic.

Miho Kajioka (49), born in Japan, crates ethereal, minimalist work, a carefully exposed hand-toned silver gelatin prints.

Pentti Sammallahti’s (71) from Finland photographs a supernatural sense of a moment suspended in time, with finely honed analogue printing techniques.

Paul Cupido’s (50) from the Netherlands, used simple techniques as water droplets and flares employed in the darkroom to achieve abstract effects.

Raul Canibano (61) Cuban-born, captures a complex yearning for the countryside of this childhood,

Tamas Dezso (43) from Budapest, balances fine art photography and traditional photojournalism, portraying universal phenomena such as physical and intellectual isolation, survival, and demise.

Vasantha Yogananthan’s (37) from France, addresses the space between documentary and fiction.  His series A Myth of Two Souls is inspired by the epic tale The Ramayana, inspired by everyday Indian life.
