Liz Truss is UK’s third female Prime Minister and becomes UK’s 56th PM. Johnson the outgoing PM in his farewell speech said “Get Behind Truss”.

The Prime Minister was appointed by the Queen at Balmoral Castle. Earlier Boris Johnson tendered his resignation to the monarch after travelling separately to Scotland.

It is understood that the government is looking to cap energy bills at around £2, 500 in a new plan expected to be revealed on Thursday, to tackle the energy crisis. The new level will be a cut of £1, 000 from the expected October energy cap level, but not a freeze on current prices.  Currently, a typical household’s gas and electricity bill is due to rise from £1, 971 to £3, 549 on October 22.
