Sampha dedicated his Mercury Prize to both his parents who were born in Sierra Leon.

Process his debut album, is fully formed out of his heart. However, process beat the likes of Ed Sheeran, The xx, Stormzy to win £25, 000 Mercury Prize which recognises the best British or Irish album of the year.

Sampha’s expression of music played beautifully interfacing with grief, really gives it a edge over others.

The winner was chosen by a panel of judges that included Jessie Ware, Ella Eyre, Clara Amfo, Marcus Mumford and jazz musician Jamie Cullum.

Another male winner, as there4 has not been a female winner since PJ Harvey’s second win in 2011. Sampha managed to project his cloudy emotions into perspective.
