The bronze sword, awarded to American-born Captain William Rutherford, of the 74-gun HMS Swiftsure for his heroics and his role in helping the British to Victory at the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar goes on the market for £200, 000. The 100 Guinea Sword only 23 of them were awarded to captains from the world’s most famous naval battle. The above sword remained in Rutherford’s family for 144 years and then passed to a private collector. The sword’s steel striking blade, decorated in blue and gold, the ivory handle and the bullion thread belt and the gilted bronze scabbard. Captain Rutheford was appointed to his role by Horatio Nelson
