Verstappen wins US F1 Grand Prix

 

Max Verstappen fought. Back from an 11-second pit stop to pass his two biggest rivals after lap 50 to overtake Lewis Hamilton and clinch the first constructor’s title in nine years for a team that had lost its leader and creator less than 24 hours before.

A high-speed crash between Alonso and Stroll on Lap 23 causes the second Safety Car Stroll out. First Safety Car deployed after Bottas beached car on lap 18.

Lewis Hamilton came as close as he has so far this year only to lose out to the Verstappen steamroller in the end. Fernando Alonso produced one of the drives of the season, to finish seventh in a damaged car in a 180mph crash in which it did a wheelie smashed back into the ground and then a wall.

Lap two at Turn 12 and One at Turn One, led to mistakes from Hamilton that cost him 0.7 secs and Red Bull did the rest.
