Britain’s biggest masked ball, The Animal Ball takes place tonight in London, organised by Ruth Powys, CEO of Asian elephant charity Elephant Family .  She describes the multiple events  as “revenge on all the bad charity events that everyone is so bored of”. Ruth’s deceased husband – founder – was Mark Shand, younger brother of the Duchess of Cornwall.

The events will take place at different venues around London – “From Annabel’s to Zuma” and Swarovski have been making the jewel encrusted masks – 800 with an animal theme for each guest.  Ruth will be wearing a Burberry Great Indian Bustard mask and says, “so I will be a carnivorous vulture”.

Presidents of the charity, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, are hosting a dinner at Clarence House for  22 guests and Princess Eugenie and singer Ellie Goulding will be heading a table at the Arts Club.
