England U-17 came from behind from 2-0 down to thrash Spain and claim a famous 5-2 victory in the Fifa World Cup completion in Kalkota, India.

The young Three Lions had never gone beyond the quarter-finals in the tournament before, and emulated the England U20 who won their World Cup in June 2017.

Steve Cooper’s side were unlucky to fall behind to a double from Barcelona forward Sergio Gomez. Wolves forward Morgan Gibbs White added to Rhian Brewster’s eight goal of the tournament including consecutive hat-tricks in the quarter finals and semi-finals to equalise and Phil Foden, from Manchester City and the man of the match, stole in at the back post to put England ahead, and slotted in the fifth late on with a clean shot. Chelsea defender Marc Guehi scored home the fourth from close range, as England avenged Spain’s victory in the European Championship final back in May 2017.

Spain found two goal out of five on target while England had 25 shots on goal , 11 of which found the target. Liverpool striker Brewster secured the tournament’s golden boot with the header that put the game back within reach .

Manager Steve Cooper said “ I am just so proud of the performance. We were down and we just played our way back into it. We didn’t stop. We stuck to the game plan. We’re building for the future and that’s the way to do it”.

Spanish coach Santiago Denia was “heartbroken” by Phillip Foden and his gang.
